Resource efficiency in chemical industries – best practice examples from Baden-Württemberg

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Tobias Viere, Institute for Industrial Ecology at Pforzheim University

Areas of expertise: sustainability accounting and reporting, life cycle assessment, industrial ecology, material flow cost accounting

Presentation language: English

Abstract:
The German federal state of Baden-Württemberg has commissioned the Institute for Industrial Ecology (INEC) at Pforzheim University and further partners to compile and evaluate 100 best practice examples on resource efficiency within the state’s industries.
Intermediate results reveal a huge range of resource efficiency applications that cover various aspects of industrial ecology including closed material loops, zero waste strategies, energy efficiency, and design for environment. The results affirm previous observations on the huge resource efficiency potentials within the industry and reveal barriers to and success factors for resource efficiency measures.
