We can already look back on an impressive history of exciting and successful software development projects.

Some of them are listed below.

CliCCC - Climate & Carbon Calculator for Companies

Web-based calculator to determine greenhouse gas emissions

The aim of the CliCCC project is to develop a web-based calculator to determine the greenhouse gas emissions and climate-specific performance of companies. One that is specifically geared to the needs of SMEs.

It is modular and scalable, which means an individual design can be tailored to the needs of any user group and it will integrate seamlessly. The calculator will allow fast and reliable emissions estimates of high scientific quality over a large breadth of relevance at the enterprise level. It also considers direct and indirect emissions from intermediate consumption and depreciation. This is done based on generic data for environmental and national economic numbers.

The project is supported by the BMBF - Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research - in cooperation with both the Institute for Industrial Ecology at University of Pforzheim and Chamber of Commerce Southern Upper Rhine, Freiburg.

ecoinvent

Administration and supply of LCI datasets for ecoinvent v1, v2 and v3

Since 2001 IFU Hamburg develops the complete database system solution for adminstrating and supplying the LCI process data for the ecoinvent Centre, the swiss centre for life cycle inventories.

The Swiss Centre for Life Cycle Inventories initiated the project 'ecoinvent 2000' with the objective to provide a comprehensive database of harmonised, quality-checked life cycle inventory (LCI) datasets for materials and processes. IFU Hamburg GmbH was comissioned to develop the database and the required software tools. The database is accessible on the Internet for subscribers.

Main components of this software solution are a central database server, an administration tool 'EcoAdmin', the internet portal with search engine 'EcoQuery', the highly efficient calculation routines 'EcoCalc' and the 'EcoEditor' tool for shared access to the database. ifu Hamburg also hosts and maintains the ecoinvent servers.

A central element of this project was the development of the industrial standard 'EcoSpold' for life cycle inventory datasets. It allows the exchange of LCA data in an common format between various commercial LCA software tools and is based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language) technology.

For staying up to date IFU Hamburg continously works on updating and improving the components of this project.

EnHiPro

Energy and other input optimized production

In order to incorporate both environmental factors and improved support for SMEs in decision making, the EnHiPro (energy and other input optimization in production) project was created. Its goal is to improve the analysis and evaluation of methods that increase energy and other input efficiency in SME production systems.

Using procedures, methods and tools developed in the EnHiPro project, cross-sector SME manufacturers are able to determine, on a continuing basis, organizational and technical measures that will increase efficiency and evaluate impacts. Under the auspices of the IWF Institute at the Technical University of Braunschweig, ifu works together with other software partners to develop relevant concepts and prototypical implementations for selected industry partners. The focus is on continuous visualization and evaluation of measures to increase the use efficiency of energy, material inputs and material flow information in production planning and existing ERP environments. Various partners are already testing the new and practical solutions that have been developed during the project.

Umberto - Know the Flow

started in 1992 named 'EcoNet'

It is the biggest development project of IFU Hamburg for sure. We development Umberto continously for improving its features and to make working with more comfortable and comprehensive. Many companies from different industries, universities and research institutes rely on the software within their projects in life cycle assessment, resource efficiency or material flow analysis. Currently we work on a new software architecture for being able to suit the software even better to customer's needs.

You can find all kinds of interesting information about the software on the product website. We would like to draw your attention especially to the success stories, which explain how our customers have successfully used the software in their projects. We have gathered them for you in our Download Center.
