Order to evaluate the suitability of Umberto Eco for controlling the DTAG. On site Logistics Center Bremen (LZE) the exemplary accounting for material and energy flows of operational areas was conducted. Another key point was to search for appropriate data sources and in the compilation and analysis of data. On the basis of the modeled processes and aggregated data with Umberto ® automatically calculates material balances and proved its cost. (1998)
ISAC
Integration of substance flow analysis in an advanced environmental control concept
ISAC is a large collaborative project within the funding priority "Integrated environmental protection - Operational tools for sustainable management" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The possibilities are explored to integrate professional substance flow analysis in the operating environment and controlling the environmental control so further, that it can be used not only in the operational area, but also highlight future options helps. Project partners include: Aventis, Daimler-Chrysler, College Pforzheim, ifeu Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg GmbH, KPMG Dusseldorf, Hamburg University, Wilkhahn (2001).

Identification of environmental indicators and vulnerability analysis
Start with the implementation of a comprehensive life cycle analysis for a selected product of Schering AG. This first all phases of the chemical and pharmaceutical production will be analyzed. The distribution and use phase are to be considered at a later date. Based on the present state analysis is the project of identifying environmental indicators and vulnerability analysis.

Support of the annual environmental reports
Target is the annual creation and automatic maintenance of a input / output record of MOHN Mohn Media Print GmbH, a subsidiary of the Bertelsmann group. For this, the operational processes of MOHN Mohn Media Print GmbH in the form of a model with Umberto shown.
Based on this model then, ecological and economic vulnerability assessments or planning calculations are carried out, to contribute to the continuous improvement of the environmental effects by the company. However, to avoid duplication of data is the data supply of the model down to a possible integration with existing corporate information systems have value.

Substance flow analysis for the optimization of treatment processes
On behalf of the customers complex sorting and disposal options for different compositions of plastic waste fractions were modeled with variable processing technologies.
The amount of data and structural information is automatically read from Excel files. After calculating and reporting the streams are available for analysis and visualization (Sankey) - also in terms of costs - are available. On the basis of the quantity structure suggest measures for the optimization of the cost to develop and assess the options and treatment.

Toolset "Regional Material Flow Management"
Together with the Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IfAS) at the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld (college Trier) a multi-media information portal with a learning platform for the regional material flow management was developed. Result is a DVD that now is used by decision makers in municipalities and counties. The project was funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU).
