LCA Award 2010 - ifu sponsors UNEP/SETAC


Four projects receive free Umberto licenses

ifu Hamburg GmbH sponsors the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative by providing software licenses and support to projects in developing countries.

UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and the association SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) are jointly running the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative. The main objective is to "enable users around the world to put life cycle thinking into effective practice". ifu Hamburg GmbH is a member of the Task Force 5 in the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative.

The UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative Award invited universities and non-profit organisations to submit project ideasfocusing on capacity building and dissemination in the fields of Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Management and Material Flow Management. Target regions are: Asia, Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe and Others.

Projects will have to be completed in 12 months. Four of the applicants now received a free temporary license of our software Umberto:

  • Sichuan University, College of Architecture and Environment (China) - Life Cycle Management of Cement in China – from analysis to application
  • Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - COPPE/UFRJ (Brazil) - Life Cycle Assessment of Drilling Fluid for Oil Wells
  • Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (Brazil) - Life Cycle Analysis of the Reuse of Cement bags for Composite Material Manufacturing
  • Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica de Minas Gerais - CEFET-MG (Brazil) - Application of the Life Cycle Assessment methodology: Life Cycle Inventory of process of extrusion blow molding of high density polyethylene (HDPE) in fractions of virgin and recycled
